Open Source Record Label

Very smart and hopefully successful implemenation of Creative Commons in the music world. Magnatune is a non-exclusive label that enables limited license use of their music for consumers, sampling, as well as a simple paid use for commericial purposes. Completely transparent pricing model.

Some very good classical or techno or ambient music for those at work. Very inexpensive if you need piece for a low-budget product demo, independent film, commerical and want to stay within the law.

Creative Commons

Like Benjamin Franklin creating the lending library. Critical concept in the evolution of intellectual property. Create a simple license to enable borrowing and 'sampling' (in the broadest sense of the word) for non-commerical use. Sort of like rights versioning, it will create segmentation of IP. Very much like Billy Collins project -- 'give' audio version away via NPR, Garrison Keeler, and it will provide and introduction to people. The awareness expands dramatically through this free use, and over time generates paid use (purchase of books). Creative Commons Site

The Gene and Terri Schtick

Gene Simmons (frontman of KISS) and Terri Gross (our once mild mannered Fresh Air host) go head to head in this notorious interview. Once excerpted in Harpers but transcripts and audio files have since been pulled from the Fresh Air site (you'll understand why).

It's all confrontation, an interview fiasco. Gene starts off by not-so-lovingly accusing Terri of mispronoucing her name because she's not Jewish (she is). Only to suggest that later that her sleeping with him might just solve some of her problems. Transcript Here. Very Funny Audio Here. (25Mg download, so be patient).

International Laughter Clubs

Strange but wonderful noncult started by an Indian MD. People have morning laughter sessions to start the day out on the right foot. Saw a documentary: sort of begins as a seemingly forced thing - making facings, cartoon-like belly laughs - but then cascades into something more real. Intriguing.
